Basics

Go to https://www.filechannels.net/ and enter your email address and your password to login to File Channels.

Go to the iOS App Store or Google Play Store on your device and search for File Channels. You login to the App using the same login credentials you use for the web platform.

If you have forgotten your password, go to https://www.filechannels.net/ and click Forgotten your password? and follow the steps.

Creating and Managing Channels

Once logged into File Channels, click on +New Channel on the top left hand side of your screen.

A pop-up will then appear asking you to fill out some fields. The only mandatory field is Main Recipient's Name - this is where you would put the name of the main contact you are creating the File Channel for (you can always change this later).

In the Link Passcode field, enter a passcode here if you want your File Channel to be only accessible by someone who has that passcode.

When you are ready, click the Create button at the bottom of the pop up.

Your new Channel will show in your left hand menu with any other Channels you have created. Click on the Channel to add content and make any edits.

Click +New Document to add your files to your Channel.

Inside your created Channel click +New Video and then click Camera Recording which will appear below.

Once clicked a pop-up will appear in the middle of your screen. Your browser may ask you to allow your Camera and Microphone, allow both and you will then see yourself in the pop-up in the middle of your screen.

When you are ready to start recording, click Start Recording and the recording will immediately start - click Stop Recording to stop your recording.

Once you click Stop Recording the pop-up will stay and you can watch your recording back. If you would like to start again click Close and start again.

If you are happy with your recording, enter a name in the field below your video and then click Upload and Continue - this will automatically attach your recording to the Channel you are currently on.

Inside your created Channel click +New Video and then click Screen Recording which will appear below.

A blue button will appear in the bottom middle of your screen that reads Start Recording - click this button.

Your browser will then show a pop up asking you to share your entire screen, choose Entire Screen and click Share on the bottom right.

Your recording will immediately start and it will also record your microphone so you can speak. When you have finished click Stop Recording which is a red button that shows in the middle of your screen near the bottom.

Once you click Stop Recording the pop-up will stay and you can watch your recording back. If you would like to start again click Close and start again.

If you are happy with your screen recording, enter a name in the field below your video and then click Upload and Continue - this will automatically attach your screen recording to the Channel you are currently on.

When you are ready to share your channel, click the Share Channel button on the top right hand corner of your screen. Click Copy Link to Channel which will copy your Channel link to your clipboard. You can then send this link via email, LinkedIn message or any other messaging platform to reach the people you would like to share the Channel with.

If you would like to make a Channel unavailable you can close it down to everyone, no matter who you have shared the Channel link with. To do this click the Channel you would like to disable on the left hand panel. Then click Share Channel on the top right hand corner of your screen. In the drop down that appears click Disable Link to Channel.

If you would like to preview a Channel to see how it appears to the people you send it to, click the Channel you would like to preview on the left hand panel. Then click Share Channel on the top right hand corner of your screen. In the drop down that appears click Open Channel. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a full preview of this Channel.

To send a message to the person or people who have access to your Channel, click on the Channel from your left hand menu and you can use the message box in the middle of the screen to type and send messages. This works as an instant messaging system, so you can see all responses to your messages here and you will also receive notifications.

To start a video call with anyone who has accessed your channel

Alerts & Activity

You will receive a notification each time one of your Channels is opened, you receive a new message or a participant from your Channel wants to conduct a video call with you.

When using the web platform, ensure notifications are allowed on Filechannels.net. The first time you visit Filechannels.net your browser should ask you if you want to receive notifications - click Allow.

On the mobile app, the first time you open the app after installation your device will ask you if you want to receive notifications. Tap Allow to allow notifications.

On the left hand menu click on the Channel you want to view. On the right hand side there are four options at the top of the panel, click Activity to see all activity history on your Channel.
